Going around the world in 17 tunes

After being missing in action from the Bollywood scene for a while, Sandeep Chowta has resurfaced with a new album.
The album, Matters Of The Heart, is a 17-song international collaboration with 44 artistes from overseas, including Virgil Donati, Frank Gambale, Chuck Loeb and Scott Ambush, among others.
Speaking on the album, Sandeep said, “It’s a very melodic record.It’s mostly instrumental with a few vocal tracks. People will definitely relate to the music. There is form to the whole experience. It cannot be labelled as fusion, as there are some songs that have strong Indian flavours. These are pieces of music that are close to my heart, created when I was sad or happy. It’s my best work by far.”
Sandeep reveals that this project was not in the making nor was it planned. Yet it took him eight years to complete. “It started in Chennai where I would store little pieces of unfinished music. I wanted to complete it and put it all together.”
The album boasts a number of renowned international musicians. “A lot of the musicians are my idols. I am what I am only because I have survived listening to their music, ever since I was in school. For them to be a part of it is something I will take to my grave.”
Sandeep has also composed the music for Hollywood film Breakaway, which will release in September.
